This should allow your engine management system enough time to reset itself. You can still drive your car with the check engine light on so long as there are no other obvious engine problems, but you should still take your car in to your repair shop as soon as possible. Delaying proper check engine service could damage your catalytic converter. Do not take your car to a parts shop that offers check engine light service. The employees are trained only to translate the trouble codes, not to repair the problem itself.
